Each fall as the weather gets cooler and the days get shorter I look forward to the moment when I get to add an extra hour to my day. “Falling back” for daylight savings time is something I covet. Without guilt.

Our days have been hectic with my new contract gig, Alexandra’s football schedule, and Olivia’s play rehearsals. I haven’t really been able to get into a groove like I want. As a project manager, it’s got me discombobulated. I feel like I am wasting valuable time. That’s a big no-no for me.

So I came up with a list of 9 things to do in that extra hour.

Use Daylight Savings Time For Self Care

Sleep – Of course this is always a top contender, so I decided to just get it out of the way. I won’t likely do this, but I won’t judge if you do. 😉

Get A Mani/Pedi – What better way to use an extra hour of time than a little self-care. Push dinner back an hour (you get it back anyway, right?) and indulge in a little you time.

Use Daylight Savings Time to Have Some Fun

Watch a Movie – Spending quality time with the family is always a good option. An awesome film you can definitely view in an hour is Melody 1963: Love Has To Win an American Girl story on Amazon Video. Our family loved it so much I’m looking forward to seeing it again!

Play a Game – We love Family Game Night in our house. Take a little extra time after dinner and play a board game or a card game for an hour. Our current game of choice is Mad Libs. It’s a fun game that uses a play on words and gets big laughs from The Allen Clan. Get yours on Amazon.com.

Use Daylight Savings Time to Get Organized

Make Your Holiday Shopping List – I typically shop for holiday gifts throughout the year. But if you’re like the 65% of people who don’t start their holiday shopping until November, now’s your chance to get started!

Cozi Family Organizer
Plan Your Monthly Calendar – Planning is an obsession of mine. I get a sense of euphoric joy from the perfect plan well executed.

Follow these steps to get your entire month planned and ready: 1. Pencil in recurring activities (monthly meeting, weekly practices, and game, church, etc.) 2. Add special events (birthday parties, holiday events, school breaks, etc.) 3. Add vacation and travel days. 4. Load your activities into a shared family calendar app like Cozi. 5. You’re all set!

Use Daylight Savings Time To Enhance Your Relationship

Learn Your Love Language – Once Harold and I discovered the 5 Love Languages our total approach to marriage changed. We are now able to intentionally and specifically fulfill each others’ needs. Our relationship has never been better. We use Love Languages with our children as well. Take the Love Language assessment today at www.5lovelanguages.com.

Snuggle Time With Honey – See the previous option. Harold’s Love Language is Physical Touch, mine is Quality Time.  In that extra hour, we can easily accomplish both. 😉
